representative ron paul of texas distanced himself on monday from the nra proposal to put more armed guards in our nation's schools and paul said on his website it's another kind of violence. how do you think this conversation can be had logically in the new year if that's the only option that the nra wants to put on the table as a meaningful solution? >> well, i think that tragedy we just heard about in new york is further evidence of the fact that criminals and mad men do pay attention to the gun laws. that man was not supposed to have access to guns yet he did. in response to your conversation you had with my friend jack kingston, we should not be complacent to go to schools to be assassinated ed but the fac we need to protect our children and guns in schools should be decided at the local level but the mad men and criminals, no amount of gun control and restricting access and tightening the gun laws will stop a criminal from doing what he intends to do but putting an armed guard in the school, local schools feel that's the thing to do, we need to protect our children and one way to do

with the nra ceo wayne lapierre. he held up a 30-round gun magazine in the segment but it could have violated d.c. gun laws that read no person in the district shall possess, sell, transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. the "washington post" reports that nbc sought permission from authorities to use it but was denied. the d.c. police chief said we are investigating incident to determine if the magazine was in fact real. >>> one loud critic of the u.s. gun law is cnn host piers morgan. some in the u.s. are ready to send the british citizen packing. over 80,000 people signed requests on the white house petition site to deport morgan for engaging in "hostile attack" against the constitution targeting the second amendment. white house requires 25,000 signatures to garner a response. on twitter, more gone asked if i do get deported from america for wanting fewer gun murders are there any other countries that will have me? one of the host of the bbc show "top gear" jumped in saying -- >>> a new york newspaper is facing backlash

to watch the nra commercial last week, the notion that more guns in the hands of good people will prevent gun crimes just isn't borne out by the facts. >> $100 gift cards are being offered for handguns, rifles and shotguns. up to $200 in gift cards for assault weapons. paul vercammen is live in los angeles. our latest poll shows that 37% of americans want major restrictions on guns. does this mean today's buyback may see more than the usual response after the recent school shooting? >> reporter: we'll have to see about that. certainly the city of los angeles is hoping so. but i can tell you this. this seventh is still 45 minutes away from starting and there are well over a dozen cars in this buyback line. they will receive $100 for a pistol or rifle. and $200 for an assault weapon. over about the last four years, these gun buyback programs have had people turn in more than 8,000 guns. it's all about the anonymity. the drivers come in. they want the guns in the trunk, they want the guns unloaded. but just in case they are loaded, they will dump the guns and the bullets into the trash cans
